Celestial Avenue will be playing as part of the Rug Trip Film Festival to raise money for a worthwhile charity that helps women in Cambodia become empowered and stops the abuse of children through a self-employment program. This event is made possible through Flickerfest and Carpets for Communities. Tickets are on sale now and you can help by coming along, experiencing some fine award-winning films from Flickerfest, live music and a glass of wine and knowing you are making a difference. The event kicks off at 7pm.

We’ve just returned from China after attending the XMediaLab: China Animation Market, which took place in Suzhou from the 9th – 11th of July, 2010. An amazing opportunity to meet with China’s best and brightest animation companies and industry figures – three days with the sole purpose of building new prospects for co-production, outsourcing, investment, international distribution and more… the food and the company was great as was the steep learning curve. CELESTIAL AVENUE wins Craft Award at the St. Kilda Film Festival 2010

100 Australian short films, 26 sessions, four industry forums and 22 awards later, the sun sets on another fantastic St Kilda Film Festival. And the big news: local short film CELESTIAL AVENUE, a collaborative effort between writer/director team Colin and Cameron Cairnes and produced by Aquafruzzl Films’ Scott Alexander, won the Film Victoria Craft Award. Big ups to them and all the other winners on the night.

Celestial Avenue plays Opening night at the Arizona Film Fest!

As part of the Opening Night Celebrations at Arizona Film Fest, Celestial Avenue is one of the featured shorts.

Ah Gong is a hardworking kitchen hand in Chinatown with the singing voice of a Cantonese angel. The twist: He’s also a white dude. When the loveless Kath overhears him singing his sad and beautiful song in the alley, she abandons her smarmy blind date to pursue this Caucasian/Cantonese mystery. What results is a laugh-out-loud short that rivals Quentin Tarantino in cross-cultural visual experimentation. Part kabuki performance, part karaoke music video and part kung-fu flick, “Celestial Avenue” is a visually stunning tribute to Chinese storytelling — and damned if it isn’t a cute love story to boot.

Melbourne’s favourite short film festival, St. Kilda, has just announced the top 100, which includes both HUNTED and CELESTIAL AVENUE into the 2010 competition. The festival runs from the 25th-30th of May. More details to come regarding screening times and ticket info. Hope to see you there!
